Pit Bull keeps injuring his tail?
My youngest American Pit Bull Terrier wags his tail and hits things with it (walls, couches, tables,etc..) so hard that it starts to bleed. I am constantly having to clean the wounds and wrap it with Self Adherent Bandages. My vet recommended amputation of 3/4 of the tail. Now, i am looking for other options before i make my decision, if there are any other options. Any one have any suggestions other than amputation of 3/4 of his tail? This has been going on since i’ve got him (around 2 years ago).
I’ve dealt with many Pit Bulls with this problem where they would get small wounds from hitting their tails off of things but it wasn’t so bad that the tail would actually bleed excessively.
Is amputation the best option for this poor guy?
I agree with your vet. Sometimes you just have to do it because it will eventually get infected and be very painful. I had to have the tip of one of my dogs tails removed because it actually curled up and poked her in the rump. Drove her crazy. Good luck.
