Can I wear my ace bandage for my sprained ankle to bed?
Ive sprained my ankle pretty bad today. Its the sane ankle that 6 years ago had a hair-line fracture. My foot is still killing me 12 hours after everything happened today. I just need to know if I can wrap my ankle back up after my shower before I go to bed?
That really is a question that only a doctor can answer. The reason – any advice given on this forum will be uninformed (with all respect to those who truly are trying to help). We don’t know if you sprained your ankle or re-fractured it. No one is there to show you the proper way to wrap your ankle to prevent cutting off circulation. Next, is it appropriate to wrap your ankle at night (you won’t be putting weight on it)? Is it for immobilization or for swelling/edema reduction.
Elevation and ice may be helpful if this is a sprain. No HEAT!!!
I am not a doctor, nor am I a licensed professional. If your ankle is broken, you want it immobilized. So, erring on the side of caution, I would elevate and ice my ankle, then wrap it loosely for immobilization. Check it often during the night to make sure you are not cutting off circulation due to excess swelling. Tomorrow, I would absolutely go see a doctor. The sooner you treat these injuries, the better your chances of potential recovery. Take care.
