There have been several “public apologies” where an individual will self-flagellate, apologizing to no one in particular about nothing specific.
If someone were truly repentant, wouldn’t they go quietly to those they’ve wronged, apologize for the specific offenses and privately ask for forgiveness?
Does making a big public display about how sorry one is really deserve respect when the individual in question never approaches those he/she offended, and never specifies exactly what offense was committed?
Isn’t such a display really just an effort to attract attention and pity for the offender, with no effort to actually make amends for the offender’s trespasses against those he/she offended?
How does this display benefit the offended more than the offender whose friends rush to comfort the offender?
Flagellation was shown useless a long time ago. Your idea of going to the person quietly and correcting the wrong and making restitution is scriptural.
