How easy is it to fit a motorised valve?
How do you fit a motrised valve on heating system? Can anyone do it?
It’s to replace an existing motorised valve. I don’t know if valve or motor has failed but suspect it to be the motor as it failed after a powercut.
There are two main points to consider – one is the plumbing and the other is the electrics.
The plumbing part is not too difficult (if you have basic plumbing skills) as motorised valves are usually fitted with compression joints but you need to work out where to fit the valve to operate the system as you want it to work and then hope the position is easily accessible. You need to consider what the system will do when the valve is closed as this may create problems if the pump is still running,
The electrics depend on what you want to achieve but you need to take into account how the boiler works – some require that the pump continues to run until the water has cooled a bit. Of course wiring is needed to a timer and thermostat if you want these. As all of this works at mains voltage they should only be undertaken by a qualified electrician.
So, as a basic answer the task is not too difficult for competent, trained trades people.
