Can dogs get poison ivy or poison oak?
We just moved into a house and I found out that we have poison ivy and probably poison oak in the backyard where my dogs run around. Now one of my dogs is itching his butt and it looks really bad. I thought at first it may have been allergies but I gave him some medicine and it still doesn’t help. I’ve already made an appointment for him to go to the vets this Friday so it seems like he is suffering and I want him to feel better. What can I do or give him to make him better? Is there anything for dogs that cures poison ivy (or oak)? Thanks!
And if they can’t get that, what in the world could it be?
Is there something that would make him feel better until we get to the vets?
Dogs can get poison ivy like people, but their fur may protect them. You can wash the area and put Aloe on it, but I hesitate to suggest Calamine or drugs until you talk to the Vet, because I don’t know what happens if he licks it.
