Toddler Ingenuity: Taping The Baby Down
“Mommy, did you find what I did for you?” I don’t know about you, but when I hear these words escape my 3yr old’s lips, I painstakingly disguise my wince as I “joyously” answer, “No, Sweetie, what did you do this time?” Her response: “I placed some tape on the changing table for you!”
In Reality, I did notice a little bit of tape directly in the centermost of our Davinci Kalani changer, and I inquired how it had gotten there. So, I inquired Sarah why she had determined to put a strip of tape on her baby brother’s changing table. Without missing a step, Sarah proudly explained, “So he will stick to it and not spill off.” I wanted to laugh, but I was afraid of hurting her feelings. Alternatively, I gave Sarah a large smile as I gave thanks to my delightful little girl for her very earnest idea. I know better then punish my kids whenever they are just trying to help out.
I turned grateful once I realized that Sarah had over witnessed me complaining about Baby Bruce tossing about whenever I went to exchange his nappy. There have also been a great deal of moments when Sarah has asked for some help, and I’ve had to make her wait so I can “make positive Bruce doesn’t fall off the changing table.” On The Whole, I was very impressed by her problem-solving skills, and, as more pieces of tape started appearing on the changing table over the next couple of weeks, I expressed joy inside as I thanked my baby girl for helping Mommy.
I got a kick the other day whenever we had a play day with Sarah and my friend’s daughter, Sarah taught her about the tape on the Davinci crib and changer so she proceeded to put tape on my friend’s new Emily Davinci crib. Her baby girl caught on to what Sarah was doing during a play day and you know how it goes…Monkey See Monkey Do.
